The new pedestrian and cycling path aims to promote urban mobility through alternative means to traditional public and private vehicular transportation, addressing the significant lack of a similar route within the center of Savona. The intervention completes the route that will be accessible on foot or by bicycle, starting from the old dock area, passing through the new functional space of Priamar, continuing along the Prolungamento promenade, and reaching the new pathway.
Starting from the sports area of Sacro Cuore, this latter pathway intends to repurpose the old railway embankment, reaching an elevated level of about five meters through the redevelopment of the surrounding municipal warehouses. The path will continue along the embankment, crossing the main streets of Savona via two new steel aerial footbridges that will connect different sections of the promenade, ultimately arriving at the area of Piazza del Popolo, where it reaches the current ground level.
Here, it will be possible to connect to the market area, the large public parking lot where one can also stop to directly access the beach or move towards the urban center of Savona. For this final stretch of the promenade, which involves a privately-owned area, a simple and almost “temporary” solution will be adopted, pending a definitive urban plan for the areas of Piazza del Popolo.
