The project idea stems from the desire to create an innovative and attractive school: lively, bright and flexible, open to the park. The school is characterized by a colorful envelope of vertical sunshades that allow transparency and shading. The skin envelops the school enriching the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces, creating a “porous” façade that filters the natural light and protects against solar input, promoting recognizability. Bright colors characterize the facades and interior pathways, while classrooms and laboratories are more neutral in order to create a stimulating, cheerful and child-friendly building.
The project creates a “school in the park,” designed to make the most of contact with the natural environment where the outdoor environment is for all intents and purposes a learning space.
To best integrate with the pre-existing elements, a two-volume architectural design was proposed: a two-story volume raised on pilotis, housing atrium, classrooms and laboratories, and a one-story volume with a multipurpose cafeteria on the garden level (with internal connection to the adjacent secondary school gymnasium) and plaza/agora on the upper level.
